Project Description
Bandirma Park – Connecting History with Modern Design
Bandirma, Turkey
2017, Competition Proposal
Our approach to Bandirma Park is about connecting the past and present so that the park design stays faithful to its context while remaining at the forefront of architectural innovation.
At Bandirma Park, our design approach bridges the past and present, ensuring the park remains faithful to its historical context while embracing cutting-edge architectural innovation. We aim to respect the site’s rich heritage while providing a contemporary space for modern-day experiences.
Our proposal celebrates the uniqueness of the site’s historical context, using the ruins as a symbolic and integral part of the design. By incorporating these ruins and the existing landscape into the park, we not only breathe new life into the old buildings and their surroundings but also create a dynamic center where visitors can learn from the past while enjoying the present-day design.
The external spaces, including the ruins, are designed to host a variety of outdoor events, exhibitions, and pavilions, fostering a vibrant cultural environment. The main central access path is welcoming and evocative of ancient streets, guiding visitors through the space. For the institutional buildings, we have thoughtfully chosen stone and glass facades, which not only engage with the ruins but also minimize the environmental impact, creating a harmonious and sustainable architectural solution.
Bandirma Park is a space where history and innovation converge, offering a meaningful experience for visitors to reflect, learn, and enjoy.
